The Best Mozzarella Sticks Recipe

Ingredients
  

  • 16 oz low-moisture mozzarella, cut into sticks
  • 2/3 cup flour
  • 1 tsp garlic salt
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tbsp milk or water
  • 1 cup Italian breadcrumbs
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • Oil for frying
  • Marinara sauce, for serving

Method
 

  1. Cut the cheese: Slice mozzarella into sticks about 3 inches long and 1/2 inch thick. Pat dry if needed.
  2. Prepare the breading station: Set up 3 bowls: flour with garlic salt, eggs whisked with milk, and breadcrumbs mixed with seasoning.
  3. Coat the mozzarella: Dip each stick in flour, egg, and breadcrumbs. Repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating for a crispier shell.
  4. Freeze: Place coated sticks on a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze for at least 45 minutes, or until firm.
  5. Fry: Heat oil to 350°F–365°F. Fry a few sticks at a time for 1–2 minutes, until golden brown.
  6. Serve: Drain on a wire rack, rest briefly, then serve hot with warm marinara sauce.
