Chicken Philly Cheesesteak

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Total Time 30 minutes
Servings: 4 sandwiches
Course: Main Course

Ingredients

  • 1 lb chicken breast or thighs (thinly sliced)
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 6-8 slices provolone cheese (or preferred cheese)
  • 1 large onion (sliced)
  • 1-2 bell peppers (sliced)
  • 2-3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1-2 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • Salt & black pepper (to taste)

Method

  1. Step 1: Prep Everything First
Slice your chicken thin. If it’s a bit tricky, pop it in the freezer for 15 minutes—it firms up and makes slicing easier.
Cut your onions and peppers into thin strips.
Yes, this step matters more than it seems. Even cuts = even cooking.
  2. Step 2: Cook the Veggies
Heat a tablespoon of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Add onions first. Let them soften for about 3–4 minutes.
Then toss in the peppers (and mushrooms if using).
Cook everything until slightly caramelized—about 5–6 minutes.
Remove from the pan and set aside.
  3. Step 3: Cook the Chicken
Same pan. No need to wash it (less cleanup—always a win).
Add a little more oil if needed, then the chicken.
    Season with:
    Salt
    Pepper
    Garlic
    Worcestershire sauce
Cook for about 5–7 minutes until fully done and lightly browned.
You’ll start to smell that savory aroma—that’s when you know you’re on the right track.
  4. Step 4: Bring It All Together
Add the cooked veggies back into the pan.
Mix everything well so the flavors combine.
Lay cheese slices over the top. Then cover the pan for 1–2 minutes so the cheese melts.
This part? Probably the best moment.
  5. Step 5: Assemble the Sandwich
    Toast your hoagie rolls lightly.
Scoop the cheesy chicken mixture into the bread.
    Optional—but worth it:
    Add a little mayo
Or a dash of hot sauce
    And that’s it. Dinner’s ready.
